Your Shai Hills and Akosombo adventure begins with a comfortable pick-up from your hotel or preferred location. Settle into your private air conditioned vehicle as your guide briefs you on the exciting day ahead.

8:00 am :

Shai Hills Resource Reserve

Arrive at the Shai Hills Resource Reserve, one of Ghana's most rewarding natural escapes. Your guide will lead you through the terrain, sharing the history of the Shai people and the wildlife that calls this reserve home, including baboons, antelopes, and over 170 bird species.

Rock Climbing and Shai Museum Scale the ancient rock formations of Shai Hills on a guided two hour climbing experience. At the summit you are rewarded with sweeping views across the reserve. Afterwards visit the Shai Museum to learn about the heritage and traditions of the Shai people.

8:00 am :

ATV Wilderness Adventure (Premium Only)

Premium guests take to the trails on a one hour ATV ride through the Shai Hills wilderness. This is the most immersive way to experience the reserve up close, covering terrain that most visitors never get to see.

12:00 pm :

Drive to Akosombo

Board your vehicle for the scenic drive to Akosombo. Deluxe and Premium guests enjoy a local beverage stop along the way, giving you a taste of Ghanaian roadside culture before arriving at the river.

Buffet Lunch at Royal Senchi Sit down to a generous buffet lunch at Royal Senchi, one of Ghana's most elegant riverside resorts. Enjoy the views, the food, and the atmosphere as you recharge for the afternoon.

Lake Volta Boat Cruise

Step aboard for a 30 minute cruise on Lake Volta, the largest man-made lake by surface area in the world. Take in breathtaking views of the Akosombo Dam and the surrounding hills from the water in one of Ghana's most iconic settings.

3:30 pm :

Kayaking and Swimming Pool (Deluxe and Premium)

Deluxe and Premium guests enjoy free time at Royal Senchi with access to kayaking on Lake Volta and the resort swimming pool. Standard guests are welcome to relax at the resort grounds during this time.

Drive Back to Accra

I have never been on an ATV before. Will I be able to do this?

Do not worry. Our experienced and patient guides will happily facilitate your experience to make you as comfortable as possible. You will also complete a short practice session prior to the main tour. No experience is necessary to take the ATVs. There is an obstacle course that mimics some of the trail conditions that you will go through before you get on the trails.

Can children participate?

Our operations policy allows children 6 years and above to ride as a passenger with an adult during the tour.

Is the tour suitable for people with physical limitations?

The rock climbing and ATV sections require a reasonable level of physical fitness. However the boat cruise and lunch portions of the tour are accessible to all guests. Please contact us before booking if you have any concerns and we will do our best to accommodate you.
